An Idea to Stop Brain Drain !!!

As I look at my class photo taken a month before i passed out from college, I realized that most of my class mates are in the US pursuing their MS. I consider myself to be extremely patriotic as all of you would have gathered from my previous posts. It is a fact, I admit, that all the world's crappiest jobs land up in India for some reason. Isn't it up to us as the brains of the country to ensure that the quality of jobs in India improves. When faced with such a monumental task, don't you think leaving the country is the easy way out. I understand that people who go abroad are the best of the best and they go abroad because they are really passionate and ambitious about their work and hence need better facilities for research and better quality of jobs. How many of you think this is the biggest reason behind brain drain ??? This, I am afraid to say, is not the biggest reason. The biggest reason in my opinion is greed. The biggest reason in my opinion is the fear of being seen as unsuccessful by your peers and family if you don't manage to migrate. The biggest reason is low self-esteem.

This problem is not confined to the IITs but to all good colleges in India. How low is our self -esteem as an Indian. We all say we are proud of our country. Is that only because you said the pledge over and over a thousand times from first standard to twelfth (India is my country, all Indians are my brothers and sisters. I Love my country. I am proud of its rich and varied heritage. I shall always strive to be worthy of it. )
I think it should be more like ...I love my country, but I'm not proud of its poor and overly-varied heritage and hence I shall strive to run away from it.

Having said all this, I am sorry to say, that I too have been guilty of considering the option of migrating on more than one occasion. But thanks to my gigantic balls, I have been able to resist it so far.

So how do we stop brain drain ??? I think a good idea would be to play this Lucky Ali song on all college campuses in India.

Anjani Rahoein Mein

Anjani Rahoein Mein Tu Kya Dhoondhanta Phire,
Door Jisko Samjha Wo To Paas Hai Tere,
Saans Mein Hawa, Jaan Mein Zameen,
Dil Mein Khulaa Aasmaan..aa.aa..
Pyaar Hai Khuda, Pyaar Hai Khushiii
Pyaar Se Hai Doono Jahan...
Tera Ye Aashiyana ..aa..
Mera Bhi Aashiyana ..aa..

O Anjani Rahon Mein Phir Kya Dhoondhanta Phire,
Door Jisko Samjha Wo To Paas Hai Tere,
Ghoomta Raha... Door Tu Kahinnn...
Udate Baadlon... Ki Tarahh...
Kahin Se Tujhe..Aai Hai Sada..aa..
Laut Ke Aaa Ab Jaraaa...
Tera Ye Aashiyana ..aa..
Mera Bhi Aashiyana ..aa..

Woh Jhilmilati Aakhein ... Bholi Si Ada...
Who Dheere Dheere Chal Ke Lehrati Hawa...aein...
Hamkon Le Jaaye Wahan...
Jahan Ho Ghar Apna ..Ooo..
Teri Yaadoein Mein Paaya Hai
Aaj Toh..oo... Milne Ka Din Hai Aaya Aaya...

Saans Mein Hawa... Jaan Mein Zameen...
Dil Mein Khulaa Aasmaan..Aa.Aa..
Pyaar Hai Khuda Pyaar Hai Khushi
Pyaar Se Hai Dono Jahan..Aa..
Tera Ye Aashiyana ..aa..
Mera Bhi Aashiyana ..aa..

Anjani Rahon Mein Tu Kya Dhoondhanta Phire...
Door Jisko Samjha Who To Paas Hai Tere...

Hummm..Hmmm...Hummm.Mmm..
Hummm..Hmmm...Hummm.Mmm..
Hummm..Hmmm...Hummm.Mmm..
Hummm..Hmmm...Hummm.Mmm..
Oooo..Oo..Ooo.Oo....

"How low is our self -esteem as an Indian"... I have thought this as well but I think it is mostly the exchange rate :)

Proud of u mate (for once)...although I might be part of this brain drain, albeit not by my own wishes, and later on in life, by my own wishes, i assure you its temporary, and we'll all return to India and kick some ass. Jai Hind.

I have complete faith in my fellow countrymen...You can take an Indian out of India but you cant take India out of an Indian :)
Too filmyy....I think so too
@Middle- ur right about the exchange rate bro...tell morgan stanley to short all currencies except Indian rupee...you shall be henceforth know as Middle Soros.
@Stick - Stick my man ....going to china doesn't count as brain drain...thats just stupid :)

Anyway I am so proud that two gr8 Indians responded to my post :)

you are talking about a problem we know about. Its dramatic... but

in my opinion the reason why all the good stuff happens outside India is because we have shortage of entrepreneurs.People are afraid to take up the responsinbility of ownership.

We have the right resources(people with brains and people with balls) but no ownership rights.(working class mentality)

This mentality is there in Indians abroad as well . the only difference is the working class gets paid better outside India. There comes the greed.

On the positive note the trend is changing with many young Indians opting to be owners of thier company.

The coming generation of Indians is bright, smart and best of all ,not cynical about why things happen the way they do.

@c lay: since you have raped happy in your reply you will go to jail if he registers an FIR ...lol

on a serious note .,.. i do think that brain drain has gone down... talk to any of the alumni of the 80s and 90s.. the number of people who app has gone down by a factor of 10

Hey thts a Great Article
and i accept that loads and loads are going out there to the US to earn big bucks, and I know my Bro. is one among them, but then I am sure as you said you can't take India out of an Indian, he will be returning soon to the country!
On second thoughts, people working in India...well who do we work for...almost major companies here are literally back end offices for the foreign countries, and I, you, Our parents and ancestors all studied India to be a developing country for god knows how long!
Now is the time for Change!
Now is the time to met out the country from the developing chains to the developed chains

Ive never really lived in India, but nobody can accuse me of not being patriotic!
I would love to come back to India after my studies, but the question is (as you yourself brought up in your blog)..is it worth it? and im not just talking about the money!
